Denise Mayfryer began her career as a state probation office, serving for six years. She served in the federal judiciary for 22 years as a U.S. Pretrial Services Officer and then as U.S. Probation Officer. She supervised those charged with manifold federal offenses. Mayfryer investigated those charged in federal court to determine suitability for bail. She wrote presentence reports that recommended sentences to U.S. District Court Judges using the federal sentencing guidelines. Mayfryer was liaison to federal judges and served the court in many capacities. She retired in August 2015.
Mayfryer was previously an adjunct professor at Middlesex County College from 2000 to 2007. After retirement, Mayfryer resumed instructing at Middlesex County College in 2015 and teaches Criminal Justice classes. She is a member of the Federal Law Enforcement Officers’ Association (FLEOA), the Federal Probation and Pretrial Services Officer’s Association (FPPOA), and the National Legal Aid and Defender Association (NLADA).
